The Admiralty anchor (a stock anchor) has a central shank with a shackle for attaching the rode (ship’s anchor line). At the shank’s base, two arms hold triangular flukes. A horizontal stock crosses the shackle end at 90° to the arms.
When dropped, it lands on its arms with the stock flat on the seabed. As tension pulls the rode, the stock digs in, rotating the anchor until a fluke catches and embeds, securing the vessel.
